Wilsons Auctions Dublin celebrates 20-year milestone in 2020!

The fourth branch to open in the Wilsons Auctions Group, saw the company expand into the Republic of Ireland in 2000.

This year marks 20 years since Wilsons Auctions expanded into the Republic of Ireland with the opening of its Dublin branch.

In the 20 years, Wilsons Auctions Dublin has expanded substantially, moving from their initial site on the Quay in Dublin City with three staff, to now being situated on almost a 1,000,000 square feet site on the main Naas Road with over 30 of a team.

An exciting refurbishment of its site is commencing in the coming weeks to enhance the customer’s auction experience.

A number of celebrations are being planned throughout the year to mark the occasion including a celebratory auction evening later in the year where all the customers and clients who have made this 20-year anniversary possible will be invited.

Speaking of the anniversary, Wilsons Auctions Director, Ricky Wilson said, “I am so proud of Wilsons Auctions Dublin as it reaches this milestone. I can’t believe it is 20 years since my father gave me the opportunity to expand the company into Ireland. Over this time the branch has gone from strength to strength, evolving not only through its sites but the staff and the range of auctions we manage.

“I would like to thank the hard work and dedication of the team as well as the continued support of our customers and clients over the years who have helped to get us to where we are today. This is a special year for not only Wilsons Auctions Dublin but also the Wilsons Auctions Group,” he concluded.

Launched in 2000, Wilsons Auctions Dublin started in a 16,000 square foot shed in Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, close to Dublin’s Docklands in 2000. Starting with three full time staff and holding one car auction fortnightly, the car auctions grew to weekly as the branch established its reputation and brand in Ireland.

In 2004, Wilsons Auctions purchased and relocated to a new auction centre at Kingswood Cross, Naas Road on the outskirts of Dublin City. The 3.5 acre site allowed for immediate expansion of its offering, introducing vans, plant and machinery, HGVs, catering equipment and disposal assets as well as developing a corporate services and offsite auction teams.

Wilsons Auctions Dublin relocated to its current site at Kingswood Interchange in 2012, having purchased the new premises that offered 21 acres, including 80,000 square feet of buildings and offices.

Today the Dublin branch continues to evolve its offering, with additional auction services including land and property and cryptocurrency auctions as well as advisory services alongside the entire spectrum of auction services.

With a current team of 32 working across all aspects of the branch, Wilsons Auctions’ staff have the expertise to manage over 300 auctions annually across both physical, online and offsite auctions.

Wilsons Auctions was formed in 1936 by William J Wilson, trading from one site in Mallusk, Co. Antrim. The company has since flourished with son, Ian Wilson taking over as Managing Director in 1976, expanding to a total of eighteen sites across Northern Ireland, Scotland, Republic of Ireland, England and Wales.

Currently employing around 400 people across the group, Wilsons Auctions hosts approximately 2,000 auctions annually, processing a hammer total in excess of £300 million each year.
