2019 Belfast Telegraph Business Award Winners

Wilsons Auctions has been named the winner of the Excellence in Innovation Award at the 2019 Belfast Telegraph Business Awards.

On Thursday 2nd May at Belfast’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, almost 60 companies, from across Northern Ireland were shortlisted for 13 categories showcasing the excellent work carried out by individuals and businesses.

In a year which has seen significant innovation at Wilsons Auctions through the development and introduction of cryptocurrency auctions and successfully hosting the world’s first Bitcoin auction by a private auction company, Wilsons Auctions is delighted to walk away with the award for this category.

Speaking of the award success, Wilsons Auctions Group Operations Director, Peter Johnston said, "It's great for Wilsons Auctions to be recognised in this strong category. The Excellence in Innovation Award showcases the continuous improvement and evolvement we as an auction company are trying to achieve. Achieving this goal ensures we are ahead of our competitors, along with meeting the demands of our clients in a global marketplace."

"All in all, this is testament to the hard work carried out by the Asset Recovery Department in offering a new and innovative service to its government and law enforcement clients around the world, by making successful recoveries, storage and sale of crypto assets that had previously been a very difficult task." he added.

Wilsons Auctions’ new crypto asset service has already achieved recognition, having been awarded the Innovation & Technology Award at the national Turnaround, Restructuring & Insolvency Awards in London and we are thrilled to see the momentum continuing.

Since the formation of the specialist Asset Recovery Department five years ago, the auction company works with over 40 law enforcement agencies across the UK and Ireland and in recent years has been responsible for realising in excess of £100 million worth of assets which has been returned to the public purse. This year alone Wilsons Auctions has secured contracts with the Metropolitan Police, West Midlands, Thames Valley, Cheshire and Staffordshire Police Forces with additional contracts in countries such as Belgium and Malta for various European government agencies.

A family owned business, Wilsons Auctions was formed in 1936 in Northern Ireland and has grown to become the largest independent auction company in the British Isles with sites in the Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales with over 400 members of staff and an annual hammer total in excess of £320 million.
