Wilsons Auctions was formed in 1936 by William J Wilson, a salesman in agricultural machinery and butcher, trading from one site in Mallusk, Co. Antrim. The company has since flourished with son, Ian Wilson taking over as Managing Director in 1976, expanding to a total of sixteen sites across Northern Ireland, Scotland, Republic of Ireland, England and Wales.

Wilsons Auctions has secured major contracts over the years with a continually growing list of well-known clients from both the private and public sectors across the UK and Ireland. Currently employing over 300 people across the group, Wilsons Auctions hosts over 1,000 auctions annually, processing a hammer total in excess of £200 million each year.

With the ability to auction anything from cars and jewellery to land and property, plant and machinery as well as prestige, specialist items, general and disposal, Wilsons Auctions can cover it all. And with its website ranked in the top quarter of the top million websites visited in the world, Wilsons Auctions has a global marketplace with thousands of regular online bidders making use of its LiveBid facility worldwide.

Speaking of the significant milestone, Managing Director Ian Wilson said, “As a family run business which started in 1936 by my father, I am delighted to see Wilsons Auctions reach its 80th year in business. When I first took over the running of the business I was keen to see the company grow but to see it as it is today I am immensely proud.

“I would like to thank the hard work and dedication of all of the employees, as well as the support of our customers and clients throughout the group, who have helped the company get to the position it is today. And with the great team that has now been established across the sixteen sites, I look forward to seeing Wilsons Auctions further growth in the future," he added.
