North Down & Ards Women’s Aid hits the right note with auction of Snow Patrol signed guitar

Guitar donated to local charity by Gary Lightbody and Davy Matchett to be sold by Wilsons Auctions during the Unreserved Government Auction in Belfast on Thursday 19th December.

A Squier by Fender Stratocaster guitar, signed by Northern Ireland music legends Snow Patrol, is going under the hammer at Wilsons Auctions on Thursday 19th December from 6pm to help raise funds for North Down and Ards Women’s Aid.

The impressive high-quality guitar was donated to the local charity by Snow Patrol frontman, Gary Lightbody and Davy Matchett from Third Bar, a music talent organisation set up by both Davy and Gary and will be sold during the Unreserved Government Auction taking place at the auction company’s Belfast branch with online bidding available.

All proceeds from the auction of the guitar will be going to North Down and Ards Women’s Aid, the lead voluntary organisation in Northern Ireland addressing domestic violence and providing services for women and children. The charity is dependent on fundraising to allow it to reach women in both refuge and community settings as well as responding to the needs of women and children, not only through crisis intervention but through preventative support and education.

Speaking of the auction, Michelle Myatt from North Down & Ards Women’s Aid said, “At a time when incidents of Domestic Abuse in Northern Ireland are at their all-time highest since records began, the need for Women’s Aid services are greater than ever. As a charity we rely heavily on the support of our local community, so when we asked for donations that we could raffle/ auction we were left speechless when Davy Matchett and Gary Lightbody agreed to help.

“The guitar they donated is not only a beautiful instrument but to have everyone from Snow Patrol sign it for us, makes it very special. Every penny that is raised from the auction will directly help women and children in the North Down & Ards area who are experiencing or have experienced Domestic Abuse. We cannot thank everyone enough for making this possible,” she concluded.

John Ardill, Wilsons Auctions’ Belfast Branch Manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to support North Down & Ards Women’s Aid by auctioning this fantastic guitar, signed by Snow Patrol on December 19th, with full proceeds going to the charity. Wilsons Auctions realises the importance of supporting worthy charities such as North Down & Ards Women’s Aid and the work it carries out throughout the local community. With Christmas just around the corner this is a great opportunity for music fans to treat themselves or a loved one to this unique item. We would encourage people to register as soon as possible so they are not disappointed as we aim to raise a fantastic amount for this worthwhile cause.”

All proceeds from the auction of the guitar will go to North Down & Ards Women’s Aid and be used to fund its work in addressing domestic violence in the local area. The guitar will be included in the Unreserved Government Auction on Thursday 19th December at 6pm and will be available to both physical and online bidders.
